Normalising Equality

Feminism- a big word, isn’t it?
Why does it have to be such a controversial concept when its core is so simple and straightforward?
Just a basic demand of women – to be treated equally. That’s it! Is that so complicated that it should trigger debates and movements??
These basic expectations often offend the “patriarchal egos.” I won’t say “male” egos since women too make an equal contribution in defaming and criticising the other women demanding equal treatment. These women with their normal and basic demand of equal treatment are tagged as “feminists,” or “rebels” who unfortunately have to fight to live a normal life.
The other day, I heard someone saying, “working women have tons of odds and obstacles in their way. My cousin is a CEO. Hats off to her efforts! She manages household, kids, and office so well. Women are really good at multitasking!! ”
I appreciate that this person acknowledged his cousin’s capabilities. But why does she have those obstacles? Just because all women multitask these days, it might seem normal that their work isn’t limited only to housekeeping. But just because women have the capacity to multitask, it’s NOT at all mandatory to do so! Working  24/7 is terrible for physical as well as mental health. But it has become so casual that women have accepted that it’s their duty. And surprisingly, WHOLE world lives in this hypnotism!!
Household definitely shouldn’t be an obstacle to be a CEO. Certainly NOT a tagging gift!
Like men, women must have a choice to do what they like, a choice to focus on one thing at a time; household/ job/ business/ etc.
That’s how we’ll normalise seeing women in administration and other sectors in equal numbers with men. So when you see a woman CEO/ pilot/ director, you won’t be awestruck,  but take it as a normal thing since, alike men, she didn’t have to sacrifice her sleep and peace multitasking 24/7 to achieve her dreams.
