A Pregnant Goat

My cousin Madhu came running one afternoon, shouting ‘Look, there’s a miracle! A goat is pregnant. She doesn’t lay eggs!’ The elder members laughed and showed no eagerness, but she didn’t care about them. The only one she wanted to show the miracle was me. She grabbed my hand and dragged me to our neighbor’s house. We were on holidays to our native place. It was a village where all the people lived with their cattle.
When we reached the place, she pointed to the goat. Even I, like her, was watching the scene for the first time. It was really a miracle! We kept staring curiously at the goat which increased her awkwardness. The goat that was standing started hiding herself awkwardly. Maybe, she would’ve thought that Madhu would call the whole village like she called me. She was about to deliver, her masters were trying to make her comfortable by patting her. We two were the only foreigners for the goat who were looking very curiously straight at her backside.
I noticed something coming out. I gasped and looked at Madhu but she wasn’t looking at me. She was still staring horribly at the backside, which seemed like she had discovered the mystery behind the Bermuda Triangle. Then my eyes fell on the goat. To my surprise, she had delivered a young one and was about to deliver another. One of our neighbors looked frowningly at us. I knew, it was a hint for us to get lost.
‘Madhu…’ I whispered in her ear but she seemed deaf for the while, completely devoted to the goat. Madhu took out a candy from her pocket to offer to the goat, confident enough, as if she would lick it up. Unfortunately, it hit her nose and the already angry neighbor went mad throwing even madder looks. ‘Madhu, let’s go, we’ve seen one baby now.’ Again I whispered in her ear, after receiving those constant nasty looks.
Hahaha, but Madhu was stiffly throwing her curious looks, spiking it all up! At last, I pinched her hand trying to drag her home, but… She was a year younger and a foot taller than me…
‘What? Let me see that, you go home, don’t disturb me.’ She screamed. I got annoyed as she was spoiling my image along with hers. I glanced at the neighbor and walked homewards securing a little of remaining image. I entered the gates of our house and saw my aunt. ‘Where’s Madhu?’ She asked.

‘Busy watching the goat,’ I told her rather dryly and went inside to bring my coloring book and colors. I sat in the veranda painting a goat in my book… Few minutes passed… The trees danced, the leaves rustled, a soft summer breezed caressed my cheeks and I looked up to see two figures silhouetted against the setting sun. One was big and the other, small… The small one was jumping and screaming continuously… My aunt was dragging a tossing Madhu. The most expected view in the setting sun! Finally… the pregnant goat was relieved!
‘Leave me!!! I wanna see… they’re twins. I wanna spot a difference…’
‘Don’t you have any manners? C’mon get in.’ Snapped my aunt closing the gates.
That day I learnt something, curiosity can have different outlets! I blinked and started coloring my goat again…
